Filming Process
Practice Runs
We decided that performing rehearsals were necessary for us to get everything right, this included; positioning of actors, camera shots, tempo etc. We spent a good amount of time making sure that we knew exactly what we wanted before the final shoot. This process proved well as our final shoot was very quick with few retakes. I do believe, however, that there was a lot of conflicting ideas during rehearsals and so the process was extended - Even though we had an assigned director everyone has to make their own edit and so not everyone necessarily agreed with the directors choices. This lead to us having to make a few extra shots as compromise, which was fine, but I feel as if a dedicated director would have been a lot more beneficial.
Preparation
In order to prepare we had to refer to our costume list and practice footage. Actors already knew what to wear and so on the day of filming they came with their costumes. We gathered a few props to use but only used one, which was the camera, and it turned out to be acceptable but we would have preferred a different type of camera to use as the prop. We couldn't find a way of adjusting the lighting and so we had to make do with what we had, this led to a few of our shots having sudden lighting changes because the lights would turn on and off unexpectedly. It doesn't really change the scene that much but it is definitely a down side to the recordings. Next time I am tasked with preparing a location for filming I will need to analyse the lighting more so it can be more consistent and under our control.
Recording
The recording went quite smoothly as we had already rehearsed it, but the shots we took weren't too dynamic and so we didn't have to worry too much about our boom mic getting into the shot, or the camera not tracking the actor fast enough. The scene itself is quite a slow scene with not much action and so we tried to implement a few dolly shots so the scene doesn't seem static. When it came to the peak of the scene we tried to get as many angles as possible so we were recording the same section over and over. This meant we needed to remember where we were standing at the end of each shot so when it came to editing there was continuity.
Music
Rather than finding music for my scene, I decided to create the music for myself at home. I recorded multiple tracks on my guitar by placing my phone in front of the amplifier. I will mention that I was given a microphone by the college to use but due to it only using an SD card there was no way of transferring it to my PC to edit. The amplifier already has built in effects and so there wasn't much I could do in Audition for the post processing. I had multiple ideas that I recorded but only two of them fit together with the scene, I tried adding multiple layers to the tracks but I felt it was better to only have one guitar track at a time.
