Audio Scene 2
This is a scene from Scott Pilgrim vs The World, where Scott enters a coffee shop to meet his sister.
Dialogue
Some portions of dialogue in this scene are synced up with the sounds of the coffee shop, for example, from 1:41 - 1:47 the sound of the coffee maker helps add a hissing sound to her voice, making her seem evil.
Ambiance
Some of the ambiance from this clip is created from some faint chimes with an organ to create a "dreamy" setting when Scott is looking at Ramona. This helps solidify the relationship between Scott and Ramona to the audience.
Sound Effects
One technical sound effect that I really like is when the camera cuts from one character to another, there is a sound effect from the coffee shop that will sync up with it. E.g. 1:27 you can hear the cash register close as it transitions from Envy to Scott. This, in my opinion, is a smart way of audibly transitioning from one clip to another.
Diegetic & Non-Diegetic Sounds
The majority of sounds from this scene are diegetic as all characters can hear the dialogue, environment sounds etc. but there are a few non-diegetic sounds that are important for the scenes flow and these include:
Music
The high pitched noise for Envy's entrance
The low pitched swoop noise
Soundtrack
One of the characters is part of a band in this movie, and when she appears on screen, you can faintly hear portions of one of their songs. The audience haven't seen the band play yet and so it is a way of foreshadowing the upcoming performance of the band.
Post Production
The sounds from the coffee shop are layered in post to add more immersion to the scene. Some of the sounds are are altered in order to make them go on for longer or maybe pitch shifted so they fit the scene better, either helps the sound fit the scene better.
