Audio Scene 1
Baby Driver Foot Chase
Baby driver is a music focused heist movie that shows the development of a criminal who wants out.
Dialogue
Throughout the scene, the main source of dialogue would be from the police, who repeatedly shout towards the characters. There isn't much to take from this other than it helps add to the immersion and intensity of the scene.
Ambiance
At the end of the scene is where you hear the most ambiance. As Baby's music stops, you hear his tinnitus ringing in his ear, a high pitched ringing which makes the audience uncomfortable. Furthermore, there is the added heartbeat over the top which is supposed to distract the audience (and Baby) from his tinnitus.
Sound Effects
The sound effect of the guns are added to sync up with the music, which would have taken up so much time in post (on top of every other sound that needed to be added). I feel as though the majority of sounds are re-recorded and added in post, this would have included (also a part of post production alterations) pitch-shifting, time stretching etc., in order to make sure it is synced up but also believable and musically pleasing.
Diegetic & Non-Diegetic Sound
Due to the fact that the movie is centered around Baby, the music in this scene is technically diegetic, but, there are multiple times where it is also technically non-diegetic. This is because the music is coming through Baby's earphones, and so when the focus is on him it makes sense for it to be diegetic (because he can hear it) but when it is on Buddy for example, it becomes non-diegetic because there is no way he can hear Baby's music. Some other diegetic sounds to mention are:
Helicopters
Police Sirens
Shopping Center Alarm
Police Radio Chatter
Soundtrack (Music Score)
The song during this scene is Hocus Pocus by Focus, it is a primarily instrumental based song, which makes it easier to sync up with the objects in the scene. Throughout the entire scene, every sound and motion is synced up with the music in one way or another. Just to name a few:
Cars using their horns
The gun shots
Objects passing the camera making a "swoosh" effect
Baby doing parkour
This makes the scene flow a lot smoother and makes everything seem a lot faster.
Post Production
During the first few moments of the scene, you see Baby only has one earpiece in (his left) and so the music is only playing from the left ear of the audience too. Then once Baby places the right earbud in his ear, the audience can then hear it in their right ear. Another time this occurs is when the music cuts off exactly as the iPod on the floor is shot. During the moments where it is now focused on Buddy reloading his gun, the music Baby is listening to fades away to be extremely quite, and Buddy gets his own little piece of music as the focus is now on him and his emotions.
